Landscape maintenance &
aftercare for Dubai's spaces

We keep the gardens and outdoor spaces we build — and those we inherit — looking exactly as they should: healthy, well-composed and adapted to the UAE climate through every season.

What It Means

The work that protects the investment after installation day

A landscape installation is a living system, not a finished product. Plants need time to root into new soil, irrigation schedules need adjusting as seasons shift, and the harsh Dubai summer tests every species and material in ways that a single growing season cannot predict. Landscape maintenance and aftercare is the structured programme of visits, interventions and monitoring that keeps an outdoor space performing as designed.

Aftercare is the structured care programme that follows a new installation — typically covering the first six to twelve months when newly planted trees, shrubs and turf are establishing root systems and remain most vulnerable. It's the period when an irrigation emitter blocked by debris or a newly planted hedge stressed by a hot khamsin can tip the balance between a garden that thrives and one that has to be re-done.

For ongoing maintenance — whether on a garden Hornbill built or one we've inherited — we work on annual maintenance contract (AMC) schedules tailored to the specific plant mix, surface materials, irrigation setup and the way the property is used. The goal is consistent, preventive care rather than reactive callouts.

As a design-build contractor, Hornbill brings a construction team's understanding of how a garden was put together to every maintenance visit — so we're not just cutting grass and pruning blindly; we're managing a known system with clear sight of what's beneath the surface.

Our Process

From first assessment to year-round scheduled care

A five-stage process that takes a new plot or an inherited garden through to a structured, year-round maintenance contract.

01

Garden Health Assessment

Before we agree any schedule, we walk the site and record the plant species composition, irrigation layout, surface conditions, soil compaction, any existing pest or disease pressure, and the current state of all installed elements — lighting, water features, paved surfaces. This gives us an accurate picture of what the garden needs, not a generic package.

02

Maintenance Plan & AMC Scope Agreement

We build a visit schedule and scope document that sets out exactly what each visit covers — which tasks are included, how frequently, and what sits outside the contract. For newly installed landscapes entering the aftercare period, we map the critical establishment milestones: root establishment checks, irrigation adjustments and seasonal planting rotations.

03

Scheduled Maintenance Visits

Our maintenance team arrives on the agreed schedule and works through the visit checklist: pruning, mowing, edging, fertilisation, pest and disease monitoring, irrigation system checks and hard surface cleaning. Each visit is logged so the condition of the garden is tracked over time — useful for identifying patterns, deteriorating plants or irrigation inefficiencies before they become problems.

Seasonal Adjustments & Planting Rotations

Dubai's two distinct growing seasons — the cooler, active period from October to April, and the summer dormancy period from June to August — require very different maintenance rhythms. We adjust irrigation timers, remove heat-stressed annuals, introduce cool-season colour, apply appropriate soil conditioners and advise on any species replacements needed as the garden matures.

Reporting & Ongoing Communication

At agreed intervals — typically quarterly — we provide a written condition report covering the health status of the key plants, the irrigation system, hard surfaces and any identified issues with recommended remedial action. For property managers overseeing multiple units or communities, we can coordinate across the full portfolio under a single AMC.

What You Receive

Six services, one coordinated maintenance programme

Every Hornbill maintenance contract is scoped and scheduled to cover the entire landscape.

Pruning and hedge trimming service

Pruning, Trimming & Hedge Shaping

Scheduled cutting of all shrubs, hedges, palms and ornamental trees to maintain form, encourage healthy growth and prevent overcrowding — using techniques suited to each species.

Lawn mowing and turf care

Lawn Mowing, Edging & Turf Care

Regular mowing at the correct height for the grass variety, clean edge lines, aeration where needed and seasonal fertilisation to keep lawns dense and even through Dubai's climate extremes.

Soil fertilisation and plant nutrition

Fertilisation & Soil Conditioning

Application of the right fertiliser at the right time — matched to plant type, growth phase and season — alongside soil amendments to improve nutrient retention in Dubai's sandy, low-organic soils.

Irrigation system check and maintenance

Irrigation System Checks & Adjustments

Inspection of drip emitters, spray heads and timer controllers at every visit; seasonal schedule adjustments; leak detection and minor repairs — to keep water reaching plants efficiently rather than pooling or running off.

Pest and disease monitoring

Pest & Disease Monitoring

Early identification and treatment of common Dubai landscape problems — red spider mite, mealy bug, powdery mildew, root rot — before they spread. Intervention is targeted and recorded on the visit log.

Seasonal planting rotation and aftercare

Seasonal Planting & Aftercare Visits

Twice-yearly planting rotation to bring in cool-season colour in October and warm-season species in April, with aftercare visits in the critical establishment weeks following any new installation or replanting.

Why Hornbill

Maintained by the team that knows how it was built

Our engineered approach ensures a reliable, safe, and beautifully balanced outcome for your garden upkeep.

Aftercare Built-In

For landscapes Hornbill designs and builds, the maintenance programme begins from practical knowledge of every plant chosen, emitter placed, and material specified — no re-learning the site.

Climate-Calibrated

Our schedules are written for Dubai's two-season reality. Visit frequency, fertilisation timing and irrigation adjustments follow the actual Gulf growing calendar.

Transparent AMC Scoping

We scope every maintenance contract against the actual garden — plant inventory, irrigation layout, surface types — rather than selling off-the-shelf packages. What's in the contract gets done.

Full Garden Scope

Hard surfaces, irrigation, planted beds, lighting and water features are all within Hornbill's scope. A single maintenance relationship covers the whole site.

Frequently Asked

Landscape maintenance & aftercare, answered

A Hornbill landscape maintenance contract covers scheduled visits for pruning and trimming, lawn mowing and edging, irrigation system checks and adjustments, fertilisation and soil conditioning, pest and disease monitoring, and seasonal planting updates. The exact scope is agreed at the start based on your plot size and garden composition.
AMC stands for Annual Maintenance Contract. In landscaping, it means a fixed-term agreement under which a contractor visits your garden at scheduled intervals throughout the year to carry out all routine upkeep. An AMC ensures consistent care, predictable cost and priority scheduling rather than ad-hoc, reactive callouts.
Visit frequency depends on the size of the garden, the plant species mix and the season. Actively growing periods (October–April) typically require visits every one to two weeks. During the peak summer months (June–August), cool-season plants go dormant and visit frequency can be reduced, while irrigation checks become more critical. We recommend a schedule during the initial site assessment.
Yes. We take on maintenance contracts for existing gardens regardless of who carried out the original landscaping work. We begin with a full garden health assessment to understand the plant species, irrigation layout and any existing issues before agreeing a maintenance schedule.
Aftercare refers to the structured maintenance programme that follows the completion of a new landscape installation. It covers the critical establishment period — typically the first six to twelve months — when newly planted trees, shrubs and turf need regular watering, fertilisation, pest monitoring and adjustments to the irrigation schedule to ensure they root properly and survive Dubai's climate conditions.
Yes. Irrigation checks — inspecting drip emitters, adjusting timers for seasonal changes, clearing blocked heads and flagging leaks — are included in all our maintenance contracts as standard. Where a system needs repair or upgrade, we scope that separately.
