Soft landscaping & planting built for Dubai's heat

We select, prepare and plant the trees, shrubs, lawns and groundcover that make a landscape feel alive — choosing species for how they perform in Gulf heat, salinity and sandy soil, not just how they look on planting day.

What it means

Planting chosen to survive Dubai, not just look good on day one

Soft landscaping is everything in a garden that grows — trees, shrubs, groundcover, lawns and seasonal planting — as opposed to the paving, walls and structures of hardscape. It's also the layer most exposed to Dubai's heat, salinity and sandy, low-organic soils, which means species selection and soil preparation matter as much as the planting itself.

We treat softscape as a system, not a shopping list: soil condition, plant selection, irrigation and ongoing establishment care are planned together, so a garden that looks lush at handover still looks lush eighteen months later.

Soft landscaping rarely stands alone — it's usually installed against a masterplan we've already designed, or alongside our hardscape, lighting and irrigation teams working the same site, so every planting bed is positioned, watered and lit as part of one coordinated landscape.

Our Process

From bare soil to an established garden

A five-stage process that takes prepared ground — or a tired, underperforming garden — through to lush, climate-adapted planting with a defined establishment period.

01

Soil Assessment & Preparation

We test soil structure, salinity and drainage, then amend with organic matter and improve grading so beds and lawns hold water and nutrients instead of losing them to Dubai's sand.

Soil testing Organic amendment Drainage & grading
02

Planting Plan & Species Selection

Trees, shrubs, groundcover and turf are selected against the site's planting palette — prioritizing heat tolerance, salt tolerance and water efficiency for each individual zone.

03

Sourcing & Quality Inspection

We source from vetted nurseries — including semi-mature and mature trees and instant turf where needed — and inspect root health and form before anything reaches site.

04

Planting & Turf Installation

Trees, shrubs and groundcover are planted to depth and spacing specification, lawns are laid or seeded, and beds are mulched to retain moisture and suppress weeds.

05

Establishment Care & Handover

A monitored establishment period follows planting — checking irrigation uptake, re-staking and replacing any stressed plants — before the garden is handed to ongoing maintenance.

What You Receive

Six deliverables, one established landscape

Every Soft Landscaping & Planting engagement is documented and cared for to the same standard, whether the project is a private villa garden or a multi-plot community.

Why Hornbill

Planting that's built to survive its first summer

Most garden failures in Dubai happen quietly in the first year, after handover, once soil and species choices catch up with the climate. Ours don't.

01

Soil-first approach

We test and amend soil before a single plant goes in the ground, rather than treating it as an afterthought to the planting plan.

02

Climate-adapted plant palette

Species are chosen for heat, salinity and water-use performance in the UAE, not pulled from a generic catalogue.

03

Irrigation-integrated planting

Every bed and lawn is planted with its irrigation zone already mapped, so nothing goes in the ground before it can be watered.

04

Monitored establishment period

We don't disappear after planting day — a defined care period catches stressed plants before they fail.

Frequently Asked

Soft landscaping & planting, answered

Heat-tolerant, drought-resistant and salt-tolerant species perform best — including arid and Mediterranean varieties, native UAE plants, and select tropical species grown with adapted irrigation. We match species to each zone's sun exposure and water budget rather than using a generic plant list.
We test soil structure, salinity and drainage, then amend it with organic matter and improve grading so beds and lawns retain water and nutrients instead of losing them to native sand. Poor soil preparation is the most common reason new planting fails in its first year.
The cooler months from October to March are ideal for major planting, giving roots time to establish before peak summer heat. Planting is possible year-round with irrigation and shading support, but timing affects how much establishment care a project needs.
Yes. We source from vetted nurseries, including semi-mature and mature trees for instant impact and rolled instant turf for immediate lawn coverage, alongside standard nursery stock for shrubs and groundcover.
Most projects need a monitored establishment period of around eight to twelve weeks after planting, during which we check irrigation uptake, re-stake where needed and replace any stressed plants before handover to ongoing maintenance.
Planting is always installed with its irrigation zone already mapped and connected, but full system design and installation falls under our separate Irrigation & Sustainable Systems service. We coordinate the two so nothing goes in the ground before it can be watered.
