We design and install bespoke water features — from villa garden fountains and cascading water walls to koi ponds and reflecting pools — engineered from the outset for Dubai's heat, sand and outdoor exposure.
What it means
A water feature is more than an ornamental addition. In Dubai's landscape, moving water does several things at once: it creates a focal point that anchors the garden's layout, introduces sound that masks road noise and adds sensory depth, provides a degree of evaporative cooling at the microclimate level, and elevates the perceived value of the property significantly.
The challenge in the Gulf is that most water feature design thinking originates in cooler, wetter climates. High UV exposure, sand infiltration, extreme summer heat and elevated evaporation rates all demand different material choices, pump specifications and basin engineering than you'd find in a European or Asian project. We design for those conditions from the first sketch — not as an afterthought.
As a design-build contractor, Hornbill handles the full scope: concept and layout, structural basin construction, pump and filtration specification, tiling and cladding, lighting integration, and commissioning — so the feature is handed over working, not just installed.
Our Process
A five-stage process that takes an idea — or an empty courtyard — through to a running, maintained water feature.
We walk the plot to understand the scale, existing landscape, power and drainage infrastructure, sun and shade patterns, and the architectural language of the property. We discuss the type and mood of feature you're drawn to and budget parameters before any design work begins.
We present a concept layout showing placement, footprint, typology — fountain, water wall, pond, rill or combination — and how the feature integrates with the surrounding landscape and hardscape. Material direction and finish options are agreed at this stage.
Basin size, depth and structural specification are calculated. Pump capacity is sized for the head height, flow rate and evaporation load in the UAE climate. Filtration, chemical dosing, overflow and drainage are all resolved on paper before excavation begins.
Excavation, reinforced concrete basin work, waterproofing, tiling or stone cladding, pump and pipework installation, underwater lighting wiring and nozzle fitting are all carried out under a single Hornbill site team — no subcontracted handovers mid-build.
We fill, run and test every system — pump performance, nozzle spray patterns, lighting effects, filtration cycle and chemical balance — before handover. You receive a maintenance schedule and operational guide, with the option to transition directly into a Hornbill maintenance contract.
What You Receive
Every water feature project Hornbill delivers is documented and built to the same standard, whether it's a single courtyard fountain or a multi-element water landscape.
A scaled plan showing feature placement, footprint, typology and integration with the surrounding landscape — agreed before structural work begins.
Reinforced concrete basin construction with tanked waterproofing, designed and sized for the specific feature and the UAE's thermal movement range.
Closed recirculating systems with correctly sized pumps, sand or cartridge filtration, and auto-dosing provisions — specified for Gulf evaporation rates and sand exposure.
Travertine, marble, mosaic, glass tile and natural stone cladding options, selected for UV resistance, anti-slip performance and compatibility with pool-grade waterproofing.
IP68-rated underwater LED fixtures and above-water accent lighting, integrated with the garden lighting scheme so the feature reads as cohesively by night as by day.
Full system commissioning with water chemistry set-up, a documented maintenance schedule and the option to move directly into a Hornbill aftercare contract.
Why Hornbill
Water feature design transplanted from other climates fails quietly in Dubai. Ours is specified for this one.
At Hornbill, our landscaping team combines trade mechanical expertise with a design sensibility that ensures every project works as well as it looks. We handle material sourcing, structural basin design, piping, filtration, and water dosing entirely in-house to guarantee structural permanence under the hot Gulf sun.
Book a Site ConsultationPump capacity, basin volume, evaporation top-up, UV-stable materials and sand filtration are all specified for the Gulf — not adapted from a temperate-climate standard after the fact.
The same contractor who draws the concept manages excavation, concrete, tiling, mechanical and electrical fit-out and commissioning. Nothing is re-briefed to a subcontractor mid-project.
Water features are positioned and scaled within the wider landscape masterplan, not dropped in independently. Planting, lighting, paving and hardscape are all considered together.
We commission every feature to a running standard and offer ongoing maintenance contracts so pump performance, water quality and surface appearance are maintained through Dubai's challenging seasons.
